All three winners will present their projects at the EUREKA Innovation Week. They will take part in a contest for the best project pitch and an award ceremony on April 27 in Stockholm. The winning pitch will be selected by public vote within the 'EUREKA Innovation Week 2016 – Smart Cities – Sustainable & Attractive Communities' which will be held in Stockholm from April 26-29, 2016.
In several industry case studies, DIAMONDS (Development and Industrial Application of Multi-Domain Security Testing Technologies) has evaluated efficient and automated security testing methods of industrial relevance for highly secure systems in multiple domains (e.g. banking, transport or telecommunication) with project partners from six different European countries. As pointed out by the Software Engineering Institute, US, 2009: "The security of a software-intensive system is directly related to the quality of its software". In particular, over 90% of software security incidents are caused by attackers exploiting known software defects. DIAMONDS addresses this increasing need for systematic security testing methods by developing techniques and tools that can efficiently be used to secure networked applications in different domains.
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Ina Schieferdecker, Project Coordinator of DIAMONDS and Director of the Fraunhofer-Institute FOKUS is very pleased with the EUREKA Innovation Award: "This award honours our work and that of our project partners for model-based security testing within DIAMONDS. Its innovative methods and tools obtain enhanced visibility. We want to use it at Fraunhofer FOKUS to strengthen the importance and dissemination of security-oriented testing methods and to develop further of further innovative approaches by the System Quality Center." Jury chairman Peter Lindberg, Programme Manager at Sweden's innovation agency Vinnova, explains: “The ITEA Diamonds project won the category 'Added Value' for having successfully developed and implemented a new model-based testing and monitoring paradigm for security testing of networked software systems."
The System Quality Center at Fraunhofer FOKUS provides methods, processes and tools for the development and quality assurance of software-intense systems that often perform business-critical or security- and safety-relevant functions in urban infrastructures, cars, trains, planes or factories. In order for such systems to work fault-tolerantly, fail-safely and IT-securely even in unexpected situations the system quality has to be ensured throughout the entire development process, from the requirements analysis to the certification. Central to this process is adhering to high quality standards, as well as for the systems to comply with industry-specific standards.
