Diginet-PS

The Digitally Connected Protocol Route - Urban Test Field for Automated and Connected Driving in Berlin

Apr. 30, 2017 to June 30, 2019

In the DIGINET-PS project, connected and automated driving is researched in the urban test field of Berlin. The focus is on combining modern smart city technologies with future vehicles. The test vehicles are connected to each other (Car-2-Car), as well as to the traffic infrastructure (car-2-Infrastructure) and can exchange information via P-WLAN, 4G and 5G. The vehicles can thus warn each other of hazards, receive information from the control center and traffic lights, and plan joint cooperative driving manoeuvers.

Within DIGINET-PS, the Fraunhofer Institute FOKUS operates the event server, in which traffic-relevant events are analyzed and distributed in the test field. Sensors installed throughout the test field can help detect and transmit information about parking lots, traffic flow and traffic jams. Furthermore, FOKUS is represented in the test field with a connected test vehicle and, together with the Daimler Center for Automotive IT Innovations DCAITI, is testing the cooperative perception and collaboration between connected automated vehicles. The FOKUS solutions ITEF (Integrated Testing and Evaluation Framework) and the semi-automatic labeling tool FLLT.AI are used to collect, analyze and annotate test data. These data sets serve as a database for the deep neural networks of vehicles to enable a robust recognition of objects and road users detected in road traffic through learning.
