Attention flashing blue lights: More safety through Vehicle-to-X-Communication At this year’s IAA, Fraunhofer FOKUS along with its project partners DRIVE C2X and COMeSafety², demonstrates by means of realistic scenarios, how through vehicle-to-X-communication the safety and efficiency in traffic can be increased.
The scenarios were displayed with the help of a Smart, a mobile traffic light and a large-format photograph of an urban traffic crossing. The following functions can be simulated:
Green-light optimized speed advisory: Traffic light phase assistant: The assistant displays the actual traffic light phase in the vehicle and suggests an optimum speed for a green wave. Therefore the driver only seldom needs to stop at a red traffic light. In the event that this cannot be avoided the driver gets information regarding the remaining waiting period in order to decide if he should switch off the engine.
Approaching emergency vehicle: Distance and direction of emergency vehicles with a flashing blue light are displayed to the driver. Thereby the drivers can take action with appropriate foresight and avoid dangerous situations.
Motorcycle approaching indication: The driver is warned of imminent collision with motorcycles that are often overseen in traffic due to their slender silhouette and high speed.
