Fraunhofer FOKUS publishes FAMIUM open source components

News from Dec. 11, 2013

FAMIUM, the Multiscreen, DASH and DRM Application Framework developed by FOKUS has published a selection of its service discovery components as open source.

The Future Application and Media (FAME) competence center at Fraunhofer FOKUS plans to offer even more FAMIUM components covering multiple platforms as open source in near future.

The two open source components "peer-ssdp" and "peer-upnp" provide a JavaScript Node.js implementation for the Simple Service Discovery Protocol SSDP and the Universal Plug and Play Protocol uPnP. The source code with sample applications of both components are available on GitHub. Furthermore, the two components are available as node packaged modules in the NPM registry, they can be easily installed or integrated in Node.js applications via the npm manager.

nodecast is one open source project already using the open source FAMIUM modules. The nodecast project provides an emulation environment for Google ChromeCast and uses SSDP to discover and publish service in local network.
