News from Dec. 23, 2016

The IEEE Standards Association published a press release on the joint white paper »Semantic Interoperability for the Web of Things«. Louay Bassbouss of Fraunhofer FOKUS contributed to the paper as one of over 30 experts in the field of Internet of Things (IoT).

Louay Bassbouss of our business unit »Future Applications and Media – FAME« contributed to the white paper »Semantic Interoperability for the Web of Things« about which the IEEE Standards Association recently published a press release. The white paper is a collaboration of over 30 experts in the field of IoT who are involved in the standards groups IEEE Standards Association (IEEE-SA), AIOTI, oneM2M and/or W3C. The paper is available under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License.

The paper underlines the importance of the Semantic interoperability as a key enabler in the field of IoT. »Semantic interoperability is achieved when interacting systems attribute the same meaning to an exchanged piece of data, ensuring consistency of the data across systems regardless of individual data format«, as the paper defines. Establishing a shared ontology enables cross-domain IoT systems to establish conversations and build understanding.
