City|Opia – Annual Report of the OUTSMART Project

The OUTSMART project (short for: Opportunities for Urban Services Markets in Future Internet) published its first Annual Report, titled “City|Opia: Cities investing in modern infrastructure”. The report describes how the visions for smart cities are to be realized through the Internet of the Future. Furthermore it gives an overview of the activities of the project during the past year, and brings interviews with cluster leaders and stakeholders. OUTSMART will contribute to the Future Internet Public Private Partnership (FI-PPP) focuses on the usage area of utilities and environment in the context of smart cities and urban areas.
Thus it will contribute to more sustainable utility provision and through increased efficiency, lower strains on resources and ultimately, the environment. Fraunhofer FOKUS supports the Berliner Stadtreinigung (BSR) to optimize the current public waste management, increase efficiency, and improve the cleanliness of the city by introducing an innovative sensor platform.
