Fraunhofer FOKUS tests standard conformity and interoperability of Iskratel SI3000 IMS Compact Core solution for IP Multimedia Subsystem

The Fraunhofer FOKUS competence center NGNI and the international provider of telecommunications solutions Iskratel have successfully completed the second phase of the standard conformity and interoperability tests they subjected to Iskratel IMS Core solution. The SI3000 IMS Compact Core enables the provision of IP multimedia services on different networks.

The SI3000 IMS Compact Core enables the provision of IP multimedia services on different networks.

IMS stands for IP Multimedia Subsystem, the goal of which is a unified, standardized provision of multimedia services on different networks. Since IMS is an architectural combination of a telephone network, an intelligent network concept and Voice-over-IP protocols, it provides the basis for today’s Next Generation Networks (NGNs). The Fraunhofer FOKUS competence center NGNI and the international provider of telecommunications solutions Iskratel have successfully completed the second phase of their standard conformity and interoperability tests on the Iskratel SI3000 IMS Compact Core. In the joint project, a stable interaction of the Iskratel SI3000 IMS Compact Core with application servers and user end points as well as the components of the Open SOA Telco Playground testbed of Fraunhofer FOKUS was achieved.

In the first phase of the project, network provider services such as Multimedia Telephony (MMTel) and offline charging were tested. In this second project phase, an emphasis was placed on test cases for Conferencing and Rich Communication Suite services (RCS) and network-to-network interfaces (NNI) interconnection.

Prof. Dr. Thomas Magedanz, head of the competence center Next Generation Network Infrastructures (NGNI) at Fraunhofer FOKUS, explains: “Through joint projects with companies such as Iskratel, we can continuously develop the components in our testbeds and reach a high degree of standard conformity.”

Aleš Balanč, head of the Iskratel Multimedia Core product line, adds: „State-of-the-art telecommunications infrastructures are the basis for new network services like IMS, VoLTE and RCS. The interoperability of hardware and software from different providers plays a significant role here. The interoperability of our IMS solution for RCS and VoLTE services has been already successfully validated e.g., on an ETSI testing event. In the joint project with Fraunhofer FOKUS a broader range of network provider services were checked and the results reconfirm the full interoperability of our IMS Compact Core with third-party components. ”
