Dr. Ruben Merz

Swisscom, Switzerland

Ruben is a senior engineer in the mobile access innovation team at Swisscom where he is working on the development of 5G at Swisscom. Fueled by a strong curiosity, a passion for learning and a technology-first mindset, his expertise centers on wireless and mobile networking, with an emphasis on architecture, systems and measurements.

Ruben keeps a foot in the academic universe. He is a member of the IEEE Infocom TPC since 2014, of ACM CoNext in 2012 and 2013, of ACM Mobihoc in 2015 and of the ACM All Things Cellular Workshop in 2016. Prior to joining Swisscom in 2012, he was a senior research scientist in the Internet Network Architecture group of (Deutsche) Telekom Innovation Laboratories in Berlin, Germany. He earned his PhD and MSc in Communication Systems from the School of Computer and Communication Systems at EPFL.

Abstract

Slicing: End-to-end Perspectives & Trial Experience

In this talk we will give a brief overview of how network slicing is perceived at Swisscom. We will discuss how it is currently being prototyped, trialed, and present the outcome from a recent trial.
