Successful annual conference of the Fraunhofer Innovation Cluster "Next Generation ID"
News from Dec. 10, 2014
On November 11th, science and industry experts came together in Berlins Capitol Lounge for the annual conference of the Innovation Cluster "Next Generation ID". In keynotes, specialist lectures and talks, the speakers discussed current trends in the field of secure ID-management together with the audience.
While Reiner Bildmayer, Senior Process Architect Research & Innovation at SAP, talked about reliable identities as basis of a smart city, Prof. Manfred Hauswirth, director of the Fraunhofer Institute FOKUS, opened the “Industry 4.0”-session with a keynote on how cyber physical systems based on secure identities will drive innovation.
Although there was a clear focus on research, ID-management was also discussed from the corporate perspective. During startup pitches, young Berlin companies had the opportunity to present their business ideas and the role secure and reliable identities play.
During the final panel Lars Klingbeil, member of the German parliament, Lena-Sophie Müller, director at Initiative D21, Dr. Armin Wedel, Fraunhofer Institute IAP, and Jens Fromm, Fraunhofer Institute FOKUS, discussed the sociopolitical consequences, problems and potentials of the digital change. The talk was presented by Markus Sievers, economic correspondent for the daily newspaper “Frankfurter Rundschau”.
Finally all participants agreed that secure digital identities are an indispensable key technology both for robust industrial technologies and for the IT-trend concerning smart metropolitan areas. In this context, the entire ID-spectrum must be considered – the identities of humans as well as object-identites and clearly identifiable processes and services. At the same time, the balance between high levels of safety and user friendliness must be taken into account.
The managers of the Innovation Cluster "Next Generation ID", Marina Grigorian and Jan Ziesing, look back on the event contentedly: “We had an exciting day with a lot of interesting input, great conversations and also a perfect evening at the subsequent eIDEE award ceremony of the Bundesdruckerei”, Grigorian says. “Again, we´d like to thank the speakers and the participants for attending and enriching our first annual conference.”
